FRANC Latin America Conference

Fresenius Kabi Advanced Nutrition Conference (FRANC), is a clinically oriented advanced conference in nutrition therapy. The focus of this meeting was the critically ill patient.

Fresenius Kabi Advanced Nutrition Conference (FRANC), is a clinically oriented advanced conference in nutrition therapy. The Conference took place in Bogotá from 28th to 29th of July 2017.

The focus of this meeting was the critically ill patient.

Seven well-known experts within the field of Clinical Nutrition shared their expertise by clinically relevant presentations.

We counted the participation of more than 120 professionals: Doctors, Dietitians and Nurses from all Latin American countries.

The experts

Prof. Mette Berger, MD, PhD

Prof. Mette Berger is currently Consultant Intensivist at the Adult Intensive Care Service & Burns of CHUV, the Lausanne University Hospital, specialized in burns resuscitation and in nutrition. She has authored over 150 publications in micronutrients, nutritional therapy of the critically ill, burn and trauma care. Her research interests are within clinical nutrition and antioxidant micronutrients in the critically ill, with a special focus on severe burns.

She has contributed to develop the concept of early prevention of the energy debt in acute conditions, promoting the use of computerized information systems to monitor nutritional therapy and combined enteral and parenteral feeding. Prof M. Berger has held positions as president and treasurer of the Swiss Society of Clinical Nutrition.

Prof. Thomas Lescot

Prof. Thomas Lescot is currently Chief of the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care and Abdominal Surgery Intensive Care Unit at the Saint Antoine Hospital, Pierre et Marie Curie University in Paris France.
He is currently member of the Hospital Nutrition Committee (CLAN), also member of the French society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, member of the French society of Nutrition and metabolism.

He has authored many articles and scientific studies in the field of Intensive Care and Nutrition in Intensive Care.


Prof. Maria Isabel Toulson Davisson Correia

Prof. Maria Isabel Toulson Davisson Correia, among the most important activities, currently is full professor of Surgery at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Chief of the Nutrition Therapy Team at the Surgery and Gastroenterological Department  (University Hospital), Member of the editorial board of Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition and Clinical Practice and JPEN, Deputy editor in chief for Nutrition the Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences and Editor of the Gastrointestinal section of Current Opinion in Metabolic and Nutrition Care, from Belo Horizonte,  Brazil. She has authored many publications in the field of Clinical Nutrition and Critically ill patients.

Dr. Diogo Toledo

Dr. Diogo Toledo holds a degree in Medicine from the Medical School of Itajubá (2003). Residency in Clinical Medicine (2006) and Intensive Medicine (2008), specialist in Intensive Medicine, titled by AMIB. Postgraduate in Clinical Nutrition from GANEP (2009) and specialist in Clinical Nutrition, titled by SBNPE. Specialist in Nutrology (2012), ABRAN / School of Medicine of Santa Casa de São Paulo. Currently, clinical coordinator of the Multiprofessional Nutritional Therapy Team of the Hospital São Luiz / Itaim Unit. Nutrólogo member of the EMTN team of Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein / SP. Coordinator of the postgraduate course “Nutritional Therapy in Intensive Care” at GANEP Human Nutrition. Coordinator of the TENUTI Immersion course.


Dr. Maria Luisa Bordejé Laguna

Associate Physician of Intensive Care Medicine Department in Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol in Barcelona, Spain.

She has authored many publications of clinical research in Intensive Care and Clinical Nutrition Support.






MD. Pierre Singer

Prof. Singer has over 35 years of clinical and academic experience. He was born in France and has made his medical school at the Louis Pasteur faculty of Medicine of Strasbourg. He is currently director of the General Intensive Care Department, Rabin Medical Center, Beilinson Campus, Petach Tikva, Israel (1995-present), head of the Institute of Nutrition Research (2006-present) at Rabin Medical Center, director of the Metabolism laboratory at the Felsenstein Medical Research Center and Full Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the Sackler school of medicine, Tel Aviv University.

Dr. Singer was Chairman of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) (2010-2014). He has been appointed as editor, associate editor, section editor or co editor in various journals such as Intensive Care medicine, Clinical Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition Experimental, Nutrition, Nutrition in Clinical Practice or JPEN.

He has received numerous awards and grants throughout his career. He is co-principal author of the teaching modules on Nutrition in the ICU from ESPEN (LLL) and ESICM (PACT) as well as of the ESPEN 2009 Parenteral Nutrition in the ICU guidelines and the ESPEN: Nutrition in the ICU 2017 guidelines.

Dr. Singer has presented over 350 lectures, and had more than 250 invited papers at scientific meetings. He has published more than 140 original articles, 55 review articles and 36 book chapters.
